Minnesota's outdoor tri season launchs on June 7 at the 20th edition of the regionally iconic BUFFALO TRIATHLON. Between 400 and 500 participants are expected to attend and we hope that you'll be among them.
Defending champions in the Olympic race--Spencer Syvertson and Katie Deregnier--are hoping to repeat, but it won't be easy, especially in the women's contest. Two-time Buffalo Sprint winner Elena Jasper comes into the Olympic event as the favorite on paper. Three-time Top 3 finisher Christina Roberts is also registered. Roberts hasn't raced in a tri since 2022, but has excelled in other endurance sports, e.g. Nordic skiing and Swim-Run, during her absence....
A plethora of "usual suspects will be competing in Buffalo's Sprint race, folks like four-time champ Cheryl Zitur, perennial podium finisher Brian Storhaug, Elite Master Thad Ingersoll, Bette Rowley, eight-time Master of the Year nominee Andrea Myers, Christel Kippenhan and Alyssa Knese.
On paper, Mitchell Clayton appears to be the men's favorite at this point in time.
As always, great Age Group competition can be expected, as well as some breakout performances, a great exampe of which was turned in in 2021 by heretofore unknown Elena Jasper, who has gone on to receive several MMA nominations, two of which were for Triathlete of the Year.
Another Buffalo preview, featuring the event's competitive history, will post soon. Field updates will post on MTN's Facebook page.
