IRONMAN 70.3 MADISON - Minnesota women, or former ones, with one exception, have led the way at Madison 70.3. In it's inaugural year (2017), it was HANNAH GRINACKER that crossed the finish line ahead of the women's' field. In 2019 it was Rochester-raised DANI FISCHER who set the pace at the front. In 2021 it was transplanted White Bear Laker NICOLE HEININGER winning her first of two Madison 70.3s. In 2022, PAIGE SCHULZ won her first of two editions of this iconic race, the most recent, of course, was her victory last Saturday, which she did in PR time. Her 4:34:48 lowered her previous best, set at Boise earlier in the season by twenty seconds.
BTW, in 2024, it was CARYN HERRICK who collected the W.
Paige now owns the two fastest 70.3 times by a Minnesta women this year and would be a serious contennder for 2025 Triathlete of the Year with one more strong effort at any tri distance. She plans to race at Ironman Chattanooga on September 28.
Paige has established herself as our state's premier female long distance triathlete in 2025. On the men's side, that distinction belongs to NATHAN KIM, whose '25 scorecard boasts a 3rd at Des Moines (4:06:38), a 4th at Muskoka (4:20:57) and his 2nd at Madison (4:05:48- PR) behind Wisconsin's TYLER TANKO, who would get our vote, if we had one, for US Amateur Triathlete of the Year....
Kim, it needs to be noted, also rocks at Olympic distance, as his 2nd at St. Anthony's, which is arguably our country's most competitive non-championship Olympic ditance tri, clearly illustrates.
Yes, Kim appears to be the current frontrunner for Minnesota's 2025 Malle Triathlete of the Year.
