2025 MANITOU SPRINT TRIATHLON COVERAGE - Before we tell you about what happend on the race course, we want to share some great words from Manitou Director Judi Verdugo:
It was an amazing day of racing. 62 new triathletes joined veterans to grow the multisport community on Sunday. They weathered a partially flooded transition area from the overnight rains and rising temperatures and humidity throughout the race to cross that finish line. I have heard from quite a few of my athletes expressing their newfound enthusiasm for multisport. I especially want to thank the veterans who raced for welcoming these athletes, taking time from their own race prep to help them set up their transition and answer questions and then celebrating with them at the postrace BBQ. There isn't a better bunch of people than Minnesota's triathletes!
In 2015, NICK KLONNE popped a junior record 1:03:31 at Manitou Sprint. At season's end, he was named Junior of the Year. Ten years later Mankato's CORBIN DEICHMAN, 17, the 2024 JOY, came closer than anyone else to matching Klonne's stout mark. Corbin's time was 1:04:55, and it was good enough for not just #2 on the fastest junior time chart, but the overall win. In fact, his margin of victory over runnerup SEAN PICKLE, who won this race last year, was 2:13. Deichman, heretofore a guy who possessed a great swim/run combination, demonstrated vastly improved bike splits on Sunday.
Rounding out the men's top three for the 2nd year in a row was fast Grand Master KEITH TUFTE, 65.
Joining Corbin on the Top Step was was ERIN ROCK, 47 (photo R),who grew up in St. Paul then relocated to Lexington, Kentucky. With her husband, who, like her, is also a certified USA Triathlon coach, she returned to the Twin Cities a few months back. Finishing 6th overall, she threw down brisk bike and run splits to claim a 1:50 victory over JENNA MITCHLER.
Over the last decade, only one junior had a faster time than Corbin Deichman. During that same period, only one woman recorded a faster clocking than Rock. That was KATIE KADERA's 1:16:06 in 2023. Katie was named Minnesota Rookie of the Year that season.
Our Manitou Olympic coverage will post on MTN's Facebook page on Wednesday. Exactly 200 athletes registed for Sunday's Manitou races.
