Hey MN Tri guys!

With the help and support of Lakes Area Multisport, the Brainerd Family YMCA just wrapped up the last of its three part indoor tri series. The series brought in 41 participants that took part in one, two, or three of the indoor events.

As a recap, the first race took place on February 2 with all the participants covering as much ground as they could in a 10 minute swim, 30 minute bike, and 20 minute run. This race drew 9 participants with likely  ...

an equal number of volunteers who were eager to help and support. The second race was held on March 23 with the addition of a long course (20 minute swim, 60 minute bike, 40 minute run). This time, there were 16 participants all looking to break up the rust from the long outseason and test the improvement from their respective winter training.   Long-course-swimmers.gif

The last race, held Sunday, April 13th again brought 16 smiling faces. Carl Schirmer crushed the short course; swimming 475 yds, riding 9.7 miles, and running 2.42 miles for a total of 12.39 miles. Runner up in the short course was rookie Ellen Thomes (significant other of the very fast, very tall Dave Thomes {not to be confused with the founder of Wendy’s}) who logged a total of 11.61 miles.

On the long course side, Matt Radniecki logged the most miles for the day at 26.83, with IMOO trainee Josh Duda taking the runner up spot at 23.95 miles.

There aren’t actually any winners or loser with this indoor-tri series, it’s just a bunch of people having fun hurting together! But, there are two that deserve a shout out.

Jacquelyn Bacigalupi recorded the most mileage for the entire three race series at 57.37 miles. She had over 5 miles on the runner up. Jacquelyn is a fiercely competitive woman that the MN Tri scene may want to keep an eye for the next few years.

Former sub-3 hour marathoner, Carl Schirmer, recorded the most short course miles for the entire series at 36.36 miles. Carl is an absolute beast… and very rarely can you find him not on a bike.

Next year the Brainerd Family YMCA has plans to expand the indoor-tri series to 4 events, taking placing in December, January, February, and March. RESULTS:
