“One of the most important keys to success is having the discipline to do what you know you should do, even when you don’t feel like doing it.” –Unknown
This quote is typically read as a motivator. Be inspired! Be great! To quote Nike, “Just Do It!”
For a highly driven, motivated athlete, getting the work done is seldom an issue. Photos of professional athletes training through sleet and snow, wind, hail, cold, hills and heat are everywhere. We are inundated with inspiration. The harder our session, the stronger we are. Athletes are defined by their last challenge.
The problem with this innate drive however, can be a resistance to stop when injury or illness hits. Athletes want to race. They want to train. They are terrified of losing fitness. They train because they love it. They have a goal, and there is work to be done to accomplish their goal! ...

ED. The MTN Guys miss Iron Girl Michelle Andres. We haven't seen her since the Liberty Half in 2012, you know. She's done some world class racing since then, but always in exotic locales, like Kona and Verona, Wisconsin. We're starting to forget what she looks like. Not really. A few days ago we emailed her and inquired about her racing plans for 2015, to which she replied:
Hi!
I feel like I have been a pendulum since Kona swinging back and forth with my athletic goals and just being a mom. One day I want to break records and the next I'm telling myself to just enjoy my boys. It's always a struggle to find the balance. I do have some for sure Tri plans which are:
- Honu 70.3... This will be at the end of a ten day training camp
- IM Canada
- IM wisconsin
- Worlds in Chicago for the oly distance
Other possible events I'm planning on but I haven't registered for are: ...

As a longtime runner with an adult-onset interest in triathlon training, I try to jump in the pool a few times a week to swim laps with the local master’s swim team. Don’t be fooled by the potentially pretentious sound of that — the descriptor “master” is simply the creative spin marketing-savvy sporting associations call us older-than-average athletes who want to keep playing....

Ironman Cozumel Race Report - Part II - Two and a half months after IMOO I'm heading to MX to race IM Cozumel. I can't say enough great things about this experience. I had big goals set for myself coming into this race. After IMWI I knew I could push myself harder, I knew how my body responded to the distance and there was time to be taken off. I also knew this race would prove to have more challenging conditions for myself but I was willing to experience them. I'd be lying if I said I thought it was going to be easier. NO WAY, I'm not sure any IM will feel as good as my first. Also, leading up to this race was difficult. I never imagined I would have went through so many ups and downs in a two and a half month time frame but I did. Even with all the events occurring in my life, physically I was on form. I was swimming distance faster than I had all season, even being limited to all indoor pool training. Running speeds were shocking myself (I started wearing two garmins at times thinking one wasn't working correctly). Biking seemed steady from the season but it was hard to tell switching to the trainer and going strictly off of feel. I was ready! ...
